Get Moving with BPT’s Featured Non-Profit – Girls On The Run

If you’re a runner, you know the powerful effect running can have on a person. Not only is running physically beneficial, it can help you mentally as well. Tired? Having a bad day? Frustrated by something?Need to get out of the house? Work it out with a good jog and you’ll feel better by the end. It’s amazing how a run can give you a new perspective on things. Need an excuse to get out there? How about running to help change lives and benefit communities? 5K events happen almost every weekend and the proceeds go to great community organizations.

This Saturday, December 3rd, is the New Balance Girls on the Run 5k Community run. Women, men, children, leashed pets and all-terrain strollers are welcome to participate! “Girls on the Run of Puget Sound is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Since 2002, GOTRPS has operated as an after-school prevention program for 3rd through 5th grade girls throughout Puget Sound.”

For ten weeks, the girls meet twice a week with their coaches and learn lessons that follow their six core values:

  1. Recognize our power and responsibility to be intentional in our decision making
  2. Embrace our differences and find strength in our connectedness
  3. Express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions
  4. Nurture our physical, emotional and spiritual health
  5. Lead with an open heart and assume positive intent
  6. Stand up for ourselves and others

Now if that isn’t a way to use the power of running, I don’t know what is.

Not a runner? No problem. You can support the Community Girls on the Run 5k event by walking, hopping, skipping or even jumping across the finish line.

This years theme is ‘Super Heroes’ so be sure to grab your cape or super hero costume and join them on 5K day to show your support for Girls on the Run. Post-5K celebrations include a festival full of fun for the whole family.

This event is in Seattle, but there are Girls on the Run organizations across the country. Find the nearest location to your neck of the woods here.

Sign-up for a 5k and get moving, while supporting a great cause. Win win!
